Somnath, Gujarat
Somnath is the first and most revered Jyotirlinga, located on the coast of the Arabian Sea. It has been rebuilt several times due to invasions, symbolizing resilience and divine power. The temple marks the place where Shiva restored the moon’s radiance, which gave it its name, 'Som' (moon) and 'Nath' (Lord).

Mallikarjuna, Andhra Pradesh
It represents the union of Shiva and Parvati and is both a Jyotirlinga and a Shakti Peeth. The temple is surrounded by lush forests and symbolizes divine love and grace in the south.

Mahakaleshwar, Madhya Pradesh
Mahakaleshwar, located in Ujjain, is unique because it faces south and houses a ‘swayambhu’ (self-manifested) lingam. It connects with time (Mahakaal), death, and rebirth. The daily Bhasma Aarti is world-famous for using ashes in worship, which symbolizes liberation from mortality.

Omkareshwar, Madhya Pradesh
Omkareshwar lies on an island in the Narmada River, shaped like the sacred 'Om'. This serene temple represents the Omkareshwar and Amareshwar forms of Shiva.

Kedarnath, Uttarakhand
Nestled in the Himalayas at 3,583 meters, Kedarnath is one of the highest Jyotirlingas. It is only accessible in summer and is part of the Chota Char Dham.

Bhimashankar, Maharashtra
Bhimashankar is located in the Sahyadri Hills, surrounded by dense forests, and is the source of the Bhima River. It commemorates Shiva's victory over the demon Tripurasura. The temple is both spiritually significant and a biodiversity hotspot, attracting devotees and nature lovers alike.

Trimbakeshwar, Maharashtra
Trimbakeshwar is near Nashik and sits at the source of the holy Godavari River. The temple is unique for having three lingams that represent Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. It is also a prime site for conducting rituals for ancestors, and the famous Kumbh Mela is held nearby.

Grishneshwar, Maharashtra
Grishneshwar is located near the Ellora Caves. It is the smallest Jyotirlinga but rich in legend. It is said to have emerged due to a devoted woman’s unwavering faith in Shiva. The temple's red stone architecture and ancient carvings reflect a deep spiritual and cultural heritage.

Kashi Vishwanath, Uttar Pradesh
Kashi Vishwanath, located in Varanasi, one of the oldest living cities, embodies spiritual enlightenment and liberation. It is believed that dying here grants moksha. The temple is a hub of Hindu philosophy and devotion, drawing millions for darshan and the sacred Ganga aarti.

Vaidyanath, Jharkhand
Known as Baidyanath or Vaidyanath, Shiva here is worshipped as the ‘divine healer’. Devotees believe that praying here cures diseases and brings wellness. Linked to Ravana, who offered his heads to Shiva here, the temple is especially busy during Shravan month pilgrimages.

Nageshwar, Gujarat
Nageshwar is near Dwarka and represents protection from all evils and poisons. It is believed that Lord Shiva appeared here to defeat the demon Daruka.

Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu
Rameshwaram temple stands near the ocean and is linked to Lord Rama, who worshipped Shiva here before crossing to Lanka. It features one of the longest temple corridors in India.
