Brahma Temple is located near Pushkar Lake in Pushkar,Rajasthan, the Brahma Temple is one of the very few temples in the world dedicated to Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe according to Hinduism. Despite Brahma being part of the holy Hindu trinity alongside Vishnu and Shiva temples dedicated to him are extremely rare, making this shrine in Pushkar especially significant.

The temple is thought to have been built around the 14th century. The current structure was mostly rebuilt during the medieval period, with marble and stone slabs. A red spire and the symbol of a hamsa, which is Brahma’s sacred vehicle, decorate the temple’s exterior. Inside the sanctum, the four-faced idol of Lord Brahma is the main draw. This idol is made of marble and sits in a cross-legged position. Next to him is Goddess Gayatri, who is his consort and a powerful Vedic deity.

Why Are There So Few Brahma Temples?

According to Hindu mythology, the reason why Lord Brahma is rarely worshipped or has temples lies in a legend involving his two wives Savitri and Gayatri. During a yajna (sacred fire ritual) that Brahma was performing in Pushkar, Savitri failed to arrive on time. To complete the ritual at the astrologically auspicious moment, Brahma married a local girl, Gayatri, and performed the yajna with her instead.Enraged by this act, Savitri cursed Brahma, declaring that he would not be worshipped anywhere else in the world except Pushkar.
